Greetings to whomever is reading this. Let me introduce myself.

 

I’m trying to get myself into writing mode after fifty-seven years of teaching a variety of English-related subjects in four high schools, three universities, and four countries. Writing is an exercise in discovering what’s really going on in one’s brain, what one thinks. Time to put my money where my mouth is, I suppose.

 

I propose to present a series of short essays, proposals about topics which are current, reactions, and creative endeavours on an infinite variety of topics. There will be no unifying theme here, but you are welcome to look for one if you think you must. Some sketches will be opinions, with some support I hope. I am interested in the arts generally - theatre, visual arts, written arts, and music. I feel I’m somewhat qualified to discuss education., given my years in the trenches.

 

I will try very hard to tell you what I’m going to write about, so that you can decide to read or not. You will, of course, be encouraged to respond. My only rule is that you must be civil, and you must go beyond mere opinion, especially if you choose to offer a contrary point of view. Someone once said, “Opinions are like assholes. Everybody has one.”

 

So let’s talk with each other, not at each other.
